Capitals vs Lightning Game #4

This is my first time posting from my tablet instead of my phone. Hopefully I don’t chop it up too much.

Caps come out on fire. Pressing the action as soon as the game started. Orlov danced around the blueline with the puck for about 10 seconds before shooting on net, Oshie grabbed the rebound as Orlov came down off the boards and blasted one far side over the glove of Vasilevskiy. STUDDDDD. Orlov is a beast man. 70 seconds later Tampa comes back and the new look second line strikes with Brayden Point finishing off a nice tic tac toe play with Yanni Gourde and Tyler Johnson. Couple of minutes later Lars Eller takes a penalty and the all star pp unit comes on. Miller, Stammer, Kuch, Hedman and Point. RIDICULOUS. Puck moves around so well with those guys on the ice and Point taps it over to Stamkos and it’s 2-1 Tampa.

Tampa takes a bunc of penalties to end the period as they go to the box 3 times in a row to end the first but Washington can’t beat Vasy. 5 minutes in to the second and Tampa can’t even get a shot. Ovechkin flicks the puck to a streaking Kuznetsov and he puts it past Vasy to tie the game. No flapping the wings celebration though so who cares right? Honestly I don’t even know if Tampa legitimately had any chances this period. The whole period was Washington pressing and Vasilevskiy looking like his early season Vezina form. It’s scary how good he is when he’s locked in. I mentioned to Bob around this time that I think Tampa will steal this game if they can just get a shot on goal. Like we’re talking 21 minutes without a shot man. They did have a couple before the end of the period but nothing serious.

Third period is more of the same. Washington dictating the tempo of the game and just controlling possession. Vasy just stonewalling the Caps like it ain’t nothin. Lars Eller takes another penalty and right after the penalty expires Killer Killorn makes a nifty move after a bad defensive breakdown and the Lightning take the lead despite having like no shots for the whole game. You feel the steal coming at this point. Washington had so many chances down the stretch and they couldn’t catch a bounce. Honestly even if a bounce did go their way I think Vasilevskiy was so dialed in there was no way Tampa was losing.

Series tied 2-2 with both teams losing both of their home games. Washington blows another 2-0 lead. Thought they were over the curse of the Penguins but maybe not. I didn’t bother to mention that Nick Backstrom ended up playing because he was honestly useless and didn’t look even close to being ready. Hopefully for the Caps he’s ready to come and play in Game 5 because they’re going to need help to solve Vasy.
